DoArch Public Works initiated coursework for first year design students cataloging, documenting and building the 'big model' of partner communities. Included here are models of Huron, Mobridge, Webster, and Milbank SD. They are of various types, and include historical comparisons, topographic and profile cuts, and are designed to travel for display within the community.
These efforts have led to a multitude of outreach and design opportunities, including efforts in housing, public space, visioning, and master planning. Documented research includes a taxonomy of small cities across the state, comparable through geography, economy, culture, and architecture.
